What I can say about the last 2 weeks of holiday was that I got loads of rest in. Wow, how that would work for me if I had my own company. I know it doesn’t work that way but still. I realised this afternoon that I just can’t sleep anymore! I was out in Stellenbosch on Friday night till about 4:30 and was up at 10:00 the next morning. I just couldn’t sleep anymore and felt great the whole day. Nice way to start at a new company I think!

Nice! Lots of time to lie around and get some serious sleep in. I got re-accustomed with the daytime television that other housewifes, like myself, gets to watch more freely.

One of my favourites to watch is that ‘Judge Julie’. Funny lady! Then there is ‘Dr. Phil’ whom apparently got kicked off the Oprah show for leaving his wife for a younger one. Did not know that! Then there is the usually overload of soapies: ‘Slaves to our wifes’, ‘Sewende traan’ and that one with the midget in it. Haha. Crazy!

Well almost as crazy as watching ‘Oprah’ every day. Man does she love saying: “We Loooove it” a lot (PS very important to emphesise the ‘loooove’). That’s of course said when a new product was just presented that comes out from a sponsor of her program, aka: backhand. And merraculously all the woman applaud and she gives them all a presie that’s under their seats. Almost like seals at a show… just with woman instead of seals… and iPods instead of fish. But the rest of the show is very much the same.

Oprah: “We loooove it!!!”

Seals: “Yeeeesss!” Clap, clap, clap….

Man, how much power must that woman not have by now? They flock to buy books/movie/clothing/accessories when she says those words.

There’s a couple of articles thats been published recently that was heavily discussed in the media and on the comment lines of the articles themselfs:

1. David Bullard @ Sunday Times: “Imagine for a moment what life would be like in South Africa if the evil white man hadn’t come to disturb the rustic idyll of the early black settlers” http://www.thetimes.co.za/Columnists/Article.aspx?id=741855.

2. Jon Qwelane @ News24: “Poor President Robert Mugabe, he’s having a very rough time at the hands of western and South African racists, who are being aided and abetted by their loyal puppy, Morgan Tsvangirai”  (http://www.news24.com/News24/Columnists/Jon_Qwelane/0,,2-1630-1633_2305349,00.html).

These 2 writers are writing commentary on political issues in SA in an already unstable political environment. Their commentary for me borderlines racism. Do we really need that right now?

The problem I see with it is that press freedom, like we have it, is way too open for interpretation. I constantly see articles being published that is stepping over the line of good reporting and should have been stopped from being publshed by the editors in the first place. If you followed these articles you would have seen from the reactions that people are getting worked-up even more so than they already are. In our present society that can not be a good thing!

I say reporters who writes on public published articles should be restricted, same as you aren’t allowed to shout ‘fire’ in a crowded building. You are not allowed to do that, but you may work a nation into a bloodlust frenzy over your interpretation of events? And you’re talking about a reporter/ commentator that probably doesn’t have any relevant qualifications in the applicable field. How is he or she qualified to give an objective opinion? A mere good writer?

Jake White (Springbok rugby coach: 2004-2007) wrote in his book, ‘In black and White’ about how some reporters wrote half truths and plain lies to sensationalise the stories or had some vendetta against him. That reporter is in being waging various sportmans futures in his hands. How can that be allowed in any way because of press freedom? Some of those reports almost cost our nation the best national event of ’07- wouldn’t that have been fun to report on.

From what I understand there is some restrictions on press freedom. I say it must be restricted more by an approved counsel that will put clear guidelines in place for reporters to follow.

Ok, I reckon most of us just need to adapt to change a bit more. I remember when I was little how older people use to complain about the music back then and i distinctly remember rebelling against it. Man, they just didn’t wanna be funky like us. Is that us now too? I say today and yesterdays music (Led Zeppilin, Rolling Stones, etc.) will be the Beatles and  Elvis Presley of the future- there are people who still listen to it, but is it mainline tunes…? “…they don’t make’m like they use to…” B.S.

I don’t think you have to like the music you hear but at least adapt to the time. Not to contradict myself but there’s very little of the current rock music that I like. Rock has gone to shit in quality/ length/ topics and is completely predictable. They seem to want to stick to old music formats and use it in the modern times. I mean, they are playing with instruments that was developed in the 50′s… and they call it modern!?

That is why I like the electronic music advances of the past decade or so. They are the driving force behind hip-hop, drum & bass, breaks, etc. Love it or hate it, electronic music changed music. From the disco days in the 80′s, house in the 90′s, to electronic bands of today like Goldfish. (PS. How awesome are they! The Jean Michelle Jarre of the new millenium). It is the way music will move in the next decades I think.

Thank you U2, Madonna, etc that started the move in a new rock/pop direction. At least I can enjoy most of whats out there and not hold on to my old records and talk about days gone by.

Now what puzzles me is what part about technological advancement do these people not understand! The average age of the human race has significantly increased due to increased sanitary and quality of living. This surely includes quality of food too!? I think the chemical treatment of food had a significant positive impact: food lasted longer and people came off healthier because of quality products. Surely that makes sense.

Now if we were to take this away, wouldn’t it cause some decline in health to us in some way? I’m not suggesting high toxin dosing of food, but complete removal of pesticides like they suggest? Hmmm…

I think most of these people are like the Amish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish) who refuse advancement in life in any way. What are all these hippies gonna do when one day everything has to be grown artificially? Wait for an apple to fall off a tree and then eat it?

I like controlled pesticides the way they are thank you. And it’s cheaper because of higher crop yield. Go have your worms!

Anyway, as with all toys it’s more what they can do that’s not part of the spec than what they are meant to do. So I browsed around looking to load Skype on my phone and came across a Fring site (www.fring.com).

You can load Fring on your phone and connect it with all those voip programs like Skype. Anyway, what a pleasure! Phoned some Skype’ers already and is brilliant. Just can’t get Skype to cell/landline to work yet (have $10 in the account). Keeps disconnecting after dialing a tone.

Will have to get that one working then I’m set. If it just wasn’t for the extreme battery usage…!

How right the man is. Europe, US, et al have been handing money to everyone in Africa and most of it’s been going down a bottomless pit. It’s time we start looking after ourselfs for a change and not allow some brother to come in and exchange his money for favours from us. We’ve been handing oil and diamonds to all of Europe and the rest and we’re left with nothing in the end.

I think everyone over here has become too accustomed to funding from the rich that they don’t know how to work for it anymore. You must be too busy working to want to fight. There must have been some studies done on this…

I think my views are shared by Annie Lennox when she went off about Africa not looking after itself before one of the 46664 concerts. Amen

This is where I will spill my guts on everything I like and dislike. I am opinionated and like it that way. This blog is like a Robert Mugabe government: you might wanna complain about something, but I won’t do anything about it!
